BACKGROUND

Steve Cerveris graduated Cum Laude from UCLA with a major in Communication Studies in 1981. He received his law degree in 1984 from Loyola of Los Angeles Law School where he was a published author and Note & Comment Editor on Loyola's Law Review.  Steve is a member of the State Bar of California and an inactive member of the State Bar of Colorado. After fifteen years as a trial attorney, he became a full-time neutral in 1999, and since that time has devoted his practice to mediating litigated disputes.


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/AFFILIATIONS

Steve is a Fellow at the International Academy of Mediators.  He currently serves on the State Bar of California’s Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee and on the Los Angeles Superior Court’s ADR Committee and its Operations and Quality Assurance Sub-committees.  Steve is a member of the Steering Committee on ADR for the Court of Appeals, Second Appellate District.  He served on the Board of Directors of the Southern California Mediation Association (SCMA) from 2000 through 2004 where he Chaired the Employment/Workplace and Courts Committees.  

Steve is a frequent speaker on Mediation, having addressed audiences at Bar Associations, Universities, Mediation Organizations, the Los Angeles Superior Court and as a Guest Lecturer at the Constitutional Rights Foundation’s Summer Law Institute at UCLA Law School.  He has authored a number of articles on mediation, some of which are available on this website.  

In 2001, Steve was honored as the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the Los Angeles County Dispute Resolution Program for his services as a volunteer mediator with the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Mr. Cerveris' offices are centrally located in
Toluca Lake, California, just north of Universal Studios where, along with his colleague and fellow-mediator, Gig Kyriacou, he has established a comfortable atmosphere particularly conducive to dispute resolution. His patience, persistence, humor and excellent communication skills contribute to his success and effectiveness as a mediator.
